In 2013, the American Psychological Association (APA) stated that gun violence is a problem that “requires evidence-based multifaceted solutions.” The Gun Violence: Prediction, Prevention, and Policy: APA Panel of Experts Report brings together experts in psychology, behavioral sciences, medicine, and criminal sciences to report causes of gun violence and preventative measures that will help keep kids safe.
The chapter, “Antecedents to Gun Violence: Developmental Issues” looks at the causes of youth gun violence. This chapter reveals the small sub-set of youth who are prone to commit violent gun-related crimes, including facts about their family or school & peer influences.
Much of the report offers “What works” solutions for predicting and preventing at the individual level, prevention at the community level, and what legislative policies might work to reduce gun violence. For further information, check out the web version or the pdf. full report, and share with those who are committed to stop youth gun violence.
