NSV Highlight on: National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSL)

In order to help school administrators and educators prevent school violence, including its many factors like bullying, harassment, and substance abuse, the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Students has funded the NCSSL (National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments). From their website, there is access to training material, webinars, conferences,  special topics, research, and links to grant assistance.

The NCSSL website provides information on how to measure a school’s climate, “a broad, multifaceted concept that involves many aspects of the students educational experience,” while explaining how to read the data and indicators of that climate. Moreover, it gives resources to assist educators in properly engaging, creating a safe environment, and implementing safety procedures for schools and their students. With links to federal and state climate data, the information provided by the NCSSL is essential in keeping kids safe in school.
